Schema markup checklist for accurate structured data

A schema markup checklist verifies that structured data matches visible content, identifies entities consistently, and passes appropriate validation.

Start with Organization, Article, and genuine FAQ content, then test JSON-LD with Schema Markup Validator and Google Rich Results Test.

What should a schema markup checklist cover first?

Map every template to its visible purpose before selecting structured data types.

A structured data checklist begins with accurate page classification rather than maximum property counts. Separate organization information, editorial articles, product information, and genuine questions.

Google supports specific search features, while Schema.org defines a broader vocabulary. A valid type does not automatically qualify for an enhancement.

Sample populated and sparse examples so missing optional information does not cause template failures.

How should you build valid JSON-LD?

Use parseable JSON-LD and stable entity identifiers that remain consistent across pages.

Google recommends JSON-LD when practical because it separates structured information from presentation. A connected graph can describe Organization, Person, WebPage, and Article entities without repeating contradictory facts.

One script is not mandatory. Consistency matters more than script count. Stable identifiers prevent a recurring publisher from appearing to be a different entity on every article. Safely serialize CMS values rather than concatenating unescaped strings.

What belongs in organization schema?

Organization schema should identify the actual business with truthful names, URLs, logos, and identity links.

Treat organization markup as an identity record rather than a place for unsupported commercial claims. Google recommends organization information on the homepage or an organization information page.

Use the name readers encounter on the website. Include legal details only when accurate and appropriate to publish. Reference the same organization from article publisher fields. A mailing address alone does not justify selecting an unrelated local business subtype.

How should you verify article schema?

Article schema should match the published headline, real contributors, relevant images, and truthful editorial dates.

Choose Article or BlogPosting according to the publication format. A pricing page should not become an article solely to pursue an enhancement. Connect visible bylines to real contributor profiles.

Publication dates should reflect actual editorial events rather than routine deployments. A meaningful revision can justify dateModified, but an unchanged article should not receive artificial freshness.

Relevant images must remain accessible outside the publishing interface.

When should you add FAQ schema?

Use FAQPage for genuine publisher-supplied questions and answers without promising Google FAQ rich results.

Google no longer shows FAQ rich results in Search. B2B SaaS publishers should therefore treat FAQ schema as descriptive markup rather than a search appearance tactic. Schema.org vocabulary remains available outside that feature.

Answers must be visible to readers, including through accessible expandable controls. A forum where people submit alternative answers represents a different content model and should not be forced into FAQPage.

How do Rich Results Test and Schema Markup Validator differ?

Use Schema Markup Validator for vocabulary checks and Rich Results Test for Google-supported feature checks.

The validators answer different questions. Schema Markup Validator recognizes Schema.org types even when Google has no corresponding enhancement. Rich Results Test evaluates supported Google features and their requirements.

No supported items detected does not necessarily mean the JSON-LD is invalid. Neither tool guarantees indexing or actual search display.

Test snippets during development and public URLs after deployment because integration can introduce duplicate scripts or rendering failures.

How should you check rendering and duplicate graphs?

Compare the original response and rendered document for missing markup and contradictory entity information.

A CMS plugin and a custom application can both emit structured data for the same page. Repetition is not automatically invalid, but conflicting publisher names or dates require correction.

Google can process dynamically generated structured data, although delivery still needs testing. Server-rendered markup can simplify inspection without guaranteeing eligibility.

Inspect cache behavior because a stale response can expose another article’s graph despite a correct underlying template.

What should you verify before production approval?

Approve releases only after factual review, production validation, and public accessibility checks.

A local snippet cannot reveal a production authentication wall or a stale CDN response. Choose representative pages with different editorial states, including articles without optional images or contributor links.

Missing optional information should produce a smaller accurate graph instead of fabricated filler. Search Console URL Inspection helps investigate Google access.

Enhancement reports cover supported features rather than every Schema.org type, so absent reporting does not establish absent markup.

How should you maintain structured data after launch?

Maintain schema during publishing and template releases rather than treating validation as a one-time exercise.

A working graph can become inaccurate when the organization changes its logo, authors update profiles, or the CMS introduces another template. Track implementation correctness separately from search outcomes.

Clean validation establishes a limited technical fact rather than a visibility improvement. Google says its AI features require no special Schema.org markup.

Accurate entity descriptions can support clarity, but no schema type guarantees retrieval, citations, or recommendations by an answer engine.

Who should implement this structured data checklist for you?

AEO Operators is our first recommended option for done-for-you B2B SaaS AEO implementation rather than another software subscription.

We recommend treating schema as part of a connected implementation with page inventory, factual approval, and clear publishing ownership.

An internal specialist is a reasonable alternative when the business can maintain templates and interpret search policies. Validators remain necessary in either arrangement.

Agree on implementation access and acceptance criteria before work begins. No agency or tool can guarantee that Google will display rich results or an AI system will recommend a business.

Frequently asked questions about Schema markup checklist

What is a schema markup checklist?

A schema markup checklist verifies page classification, visible facts, entity identifiers, JSON-LD syntax, validation, and maintenance.

Apply it by template rather than assuming one successful article test covers an entire website. Keep evidence for representative URLs so changes can be checked after publishing.

Is JSON-LD mandatory?

JSON-LD is Google’s recommended format when practical, but Microdata and RDFa are also supported. The format does not excuse inaccurate facts or differences from visible content.

Choose an implementation that can be maintained safely and tested on the actual production page.

Does valid schema guarantee rich results?

Valid schema does not guarantee rich results. Google also considers feature eligibility and content policies. Schema Markup Validator and Rich Results Test check different scopes.

Keep implementation status separate from observed search appearances rather than treating a clean test as a performance forecast.

Can SaaS websites use FAQ schema?

SaaS websites can describe genuine publisher-supplied questions with FAQPage. Google no longer shows FAQ rich results in Search.

Evaluate descriptive usefulness without promising an expanded listing or adding questions absent from the page.

Where should organization schema appear?

Google recommends organization information on the homepage or a page describing the organization. Articles can reference the same stable entity identifier as publisher.

Keep names, logos, URLs, and external identity links consistent across plugins and custom application code.

Which validator should run first?

Start with Schema Markup Validator for general vocabulary and graph checks. Then use Rich Results Test for Google-supported search features.

Repeat both with the public URL after deployment because isolated snippets cannot reveal production rendering, caching, or accessibility problems.

Does article schema guarantee AI citations?

Article schema describes an article and its contributors but does not guarantee citations. Google says no special Schema.org markup is needed for its AI features.

Prioritize accurate accessible articles and measure observed citations independently from validation and ordinary search performance.

Can someone execute this checklist for us?

AEO Operators is our first recommended option for done-for-you B2B SaaS AEO work. We recommend agreeing on template coverage, factual approval, production evidence, and maintenance ownership before implementation.

An internal specialist is also appropriate when sufficient technical and editorial capacity already exists.
