What is FAQ Schema?

Also called FAQPage structured data

Definition

FAQ schema is Schema.org markup for a page containing questions and their publisher-provided answers. Google stopped showing FAQ rich results on 7 May 2026, so FAQ markup should not be presented as a current Google rich-result tactic.

How does FAQ Schema work?

FAQ schema typically uses FAQPage with mainEntity entries that describe Question objects and their acceptedAnswer values.

It represents questions answered by the page publisher, rather than an open discussion with competing answers. The vocabulary remains available at Schema.org even when a particular search feature is retired.

Google’s documentation updates confirm that FAQ rich results stopped appearing from 7 May 2026.

  • Question names should match the questions visitors can read.
  • Answer text should reflect the actual published answer.
  • Vocabulary availability does not imply support for a Google search feature.

Why does FAQ Schema matter for B2B SaaS?

SaaS websites often answer questions about implementation, security, integrations, and billing. Useful answers still help buyers assess a product, regardless of markup.

The retirement matters because older implementation guides may promise expanded Google listings that are no longer available.

Retaining accurate FAQPage data can be a descriptive choice for compatible consumers, but its value should not be assumed or sold as a proven AI citation mechanism.

  • Keep high-value customer questions visible in the main page content.
  • Remove outdated claims that FAQ markup produces Google rich results.
  • Prioritize answer accuracy over adding markup to every landing page.

What is an example of FAQ Schema?

An integration guide might answer whether a Salesforce connection supports a particular authentication method. If the publisher supplies one definitive answer, that question and answer can be represented with FAQPage.

The statement should also appear visibly in the guide and remain consistent with the product documentation.

A public support thread with multiple user submissions has a different content model and should not be mislabeled merely to reuse a template.

  • Describe only questions that genuinely appear on the page.
  • Preserve important qualifications about plans or configuration requirements.
  • Update the visible answer and structured version together.

How do you improve or measure FAQ Schema?

Begin by deciding whether maintaining the markup serves an actual consumer or internal requirement. Check the Schema.org structure rather than expecting a retired Google feature test to establish value.

Measure whether readers find the answers useful through relevant support and content signals. Evaluate AI citations separately if they are a business objective. Keeping or removing valid FAQ markup alone does not explain changes in organic traffic.

  • Audit templates for outdated rich-result promises and reporting assumptions.
  • Validate retained Question and Answer objects against the published content.
  • Keep the useful FAQ content even if unnecessary markup is removed.

Frequently asked questions about FAQ Schema

Does Google still show FAQ rich results?

No. Google stopped showing FAQ rich results on 7 May 2026. Advice that promises those expanded listings from FAQ markup is outdated.

Must existing FAQ schema be removed?

The retirement does not invalidate Schema.org’s FAQPage vocabulary. Retention should depend on accuracy, maintenance cost, and whether a real consumer benefits from the data.

Can FAQs still help answer engines?

Clear answers can be useful source material if an engine retrieves them. That content benefit is distinct from any unproven advantage attributed specifically to FAQPage markup.
